The R-Chair’s name is derived from the Morse code-like incisions on its seat. These incisions not only allow wind and water to pass through the form, but they also serve as a lock to prevent the removable cushion from slipping when one sits down. The Morse code nods at a secretive yet highly functional system of communication. This speaks to the chair's efficient use of material through simplicity and adaptability, its hidden connection points on the backside of the seat, and its purpose as a vehicle for outdoor gatherings and conversation. The R-Chair provides a level of comfort and ease for the user, knowing it can always be where it was meant to be… outside.
