The Muri collection represents a collaboration between contemporary sensibility and artisanal Rwandan craft. Developed in three sizes, the forms can be used with tea lights in indoor or outdoor dining settings or, as wired lamps for residential and commercial hospitality use. In order to create the delicate palm woven shade, an innovative approach was used where by the original bamboo structural rings were substituted for steel wire. This allowed for smaller knots to be woven with the palm strands and therefore create a more refined look.

The R-Chair’s name is derived from the morse code like incisions on its seat. These incisions not only allow for wind and water to pass through the form, but they also act as a lock to avoid the removable cushion from slipping when one sits down. The morse code nods at a secretive yet highly functional system of communication. This speaks to the chairs efficient use of material through simplicity and adaptability, its hidden connection points on the backside of the seat and its purpose as a vehicle for outdoor gathering and conversation. The R-Chair fulfills a level of comfort and ease for the user, knowing it can always be where it was meant to be…outside.

This product was designed in response to a school competition developing products for the MoMA Design Store. MoMA’s brief was that of products which are timeless and sustainable. The Everyday Teapot, through its classic mid century simplicity and it’s ceramic materiality, answers this question. It brings a touch of warmth and honest nostalgia to any tea ritual.
