DESCRIPTION

Rwandan shopping malls are filled with imported products and materials, and in most cases, they are low-quality and made for single use. Lighting is one of those areas affected by importation, where you would find very few locally made options. These functional-decorative objects negatively impact people’s sense of ownership.

The formal inspiration was derived from the volcanic topography in the northern part of Rwanda. Specifically, the phenomenon of lenticular clouds hovering above the large peaks.

The Muri collection represents a collaboration between contemporary sensibility and artisanal Rwandan craft. Developed in three sizes, the forms can be used with tea lights in indoor or outdoor dining settings or, as wired lamps for residential and commercial hospitality use. To create the delicate palm-woven shade, an innovative approach was used, in which the original bamboo structural rings were replaced with steel wire. This allowed smaller knots to be woven with the palm strands, thereby creating a more delicate look.
