DESCRIPTION
Developed for Pratt's Interior Design Department in preparation for their CIDA accreditation exhibition, this modular display system was designed to transform a single open gallery into curated zones — accommodating student work, graphic materials, and intimate desk nooks for review, all while maintaining intuitive circulation throughout the space.
The entire system is fabricated from a single material — birch plywood — and produced exclusively on a CNC router, eliminating the need for specialized hardware or secondary processes.
The core logic is a disc-and-panel connection: two circular plywood discs, top and bottom, interlock with flat vertical panels via a keyed recess-and-dowel mechanism. The joint is also reversible — panels can be pivoted and reinserted in alternate orientations, unlocking a wide range of spatial configurations from the same set of components. This adaptability was central to the brief. The system needed not only to serve the accreditation show but also to remain viable as reusable exhibition infrastructure for future Pratt installations.
